Summer Splashes
 A week ago today I was swimming in the Pacific Ocean with my grown daughter. The weather was perfect, and the beach she took me to was secluded with a long walk down many steps. It’s become her favorite hideaway spot since she moved to Southern California a few years ago. I had only 41 hours to spend with her between a trade show in Denver and a board meeting in Chicago. In full celebration of our precious stolen hours together, we bobbed in the waves, laughed at nothing, and even spotted dolphins only a few yards from us!
As if the day couldn’t get any better, as we tumbled onto our warm beach towels and felt the sun drying the glistening, salty beads that clung to our legs, my cell phone buzzed. I didn’t recognize the number. I almost didn’t answer it, but I’m so glad I did. Turns out my 2008 novella, Engaging Father Christmas, won First Place in the Inspirational Readers Choice Category for Romance Writers of America! Only four days earlier I’d stood on a podium in Denver and received a Christy Finalist medallion for Sisterchicks Go Brit!
All choked up, I told my daughter, “This feels like too much! Too much honor and goodness all at once.”
She gave my beach towel a tug. “Mom, just take it and be thankful. My entire life I’ve watched you work in silence and solitude all hours of the night. If the Lord wants to bless you now with a few shout-outs in broad daylight, I say, just take it and be thankful.”
So to all of you, my generous readers, I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for reading my stories and being so supportive of me. I feel very honored by the Lord and by you. May God bless every one of you!
